Hawaiian King.

'The Descendants'

George Clooney has been a busy man in the last year. With filming this and writing, directing and acting in the political Thriller 'The Ides Of March'. He certainly is a tour da force in Hollywood. Teaming up with director Alexander Payne of 'About Schmidt' and 'Sideways' fame. I have always enjoyed his films, which delved into real life problems.

Matt King (George Clooney) is a Hawaii based Lawyer, who's dependency goes back into Hawaiian history. His wife is involved in a serious boating accident, and left her in a deep coma . His world is turned up side down. He seeks to reconnecting with his two daughters Alexandre (Shailene Woodley) and Scottie (Amara Miller). Balancing family and problems which fall  his way, takes it's toll on Matt.

George Clooney is outstanding! I have a lot of admiration for the man. He knows how to pick a role. He portrays a very likable man, who at most turnings has an obstacle in his way. The roll of his career? A lot of people would say so. He has a lot more to come in his career though I feel. Shailene Woodley deserves a lot of credit here, as she is a brilliant young talent, who plays off Clooney very well.

Payne is great director, with great story telling and sense of playing out a good story. I thought it was a way off from being a great movie, it's good, but not great. It did take me a while to think why I didn't see it as a great. It did seem like it was wasting a bit too long on some scenes. But the sheer frustration of Matt, who has everything chucked at him, and he stays relatively calm. That was a bit annoying.

A roller coaster ride of a movie. Full of powerful, very real like situations. Not perfect, but an extremely good watch. Payne and Clooney make a very good team. Would like to see them tag up again. Worth a look, if your in the mood for something not very cheery.
