'Cars 2'
'Cars' when it was released in 2006, was not very successful critically, and that was a bit unusual for Pixar/Disney as the movies are normally very successful and brilliant, also very important- Memorable. So 'Cars' has been seen by a lot of people the black sheep of the Pixar family. So it made me ponder why go down the road of a sequel on the 25th anniversary of the company.
Lightning Mcqueen (Owen Wilson) returns back home by winning his latest Grand Prix season, and soon gets challenged by a hot shot Italian racing car Francesco Bernoulli in a 3 race course grand prix. So Mcqueen accepts and takes the old gang with him, including his best friend Mater (Larry the cable guy). Mater gets himself mistaken for an American Spy car, then leads him to meet Finn Mcmissile (Micheal Caine) a very charming British spy. Mater is very unaware of what is going on. They try to to find the mysterious professor Z, who wants to sabotage the big grand Prix.
First of all this is very poor on Pixars standards, the story is very slow and forgettable. I felt the only funny parts of the film was the very subtle jokes, i.e. the references to other pixar movies, the incredibles and Ratatouille. Other then that, the film is very targeted towards children, even the great Sir Micheal Caine cannot save this one. I like an animation which has a bit of comedy which the adults would get.
This film has fallen very short of anywhere of becoming a classic. Up next for Pixar is 'Brave', which is shaping up to be a very good film. Hopefully we will see a marked improvement.
