To quote the cheesy 90's vocal pop group 'Boyz II Men', "So we have come to the end of
the road", and so we have for our young wizard.
I saw the first film at the cinema when I was 12 and as I sat down to watchThe Deathly Hallows Part 2 I could not help the lump in my throat as this was the end of a series of films that I have grown up with.
The film picks up where we left Harry, Ron and Hermione in search of the Horcruxes, the objects which will aid our heroes to defeat the one who should not be named. With Harry's struggling to keep Voldermort (I think it's safe to say his name now) literally out of his head. With our stars returning back to Hogwarts where Professor Snape (Alan Rickman) is now the headmaster, but ultimately under the rule of the dark lord for the final showdown!
Unlike Part 1 which lost its pace and my interest in a few places Part 2 keeps you gripped all the way through to the final scene. It was also good to see that the 'heavyweight' actors were actually finally allowed to act (unlike in Part 1) with sterling scenes from Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and of course Alan Rickman. As for Daniel Radcliffe he has matured into a fine young actor but did seem to struggle with the one liners.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the movie and found it to be very well directed, well done 'David Yates'! The visual affects are impressive as they have been throughout the franchise.
This is a fitting farewell to Harry Potter and will be looking forward to getting the complete blu-ray box-set, and reliving a bit of my teenage years. Thank you and goodbye Mr Potter.
