'Super 8'
JJ Abrams, the man who brought us such shows as 'Alias' and 'Lost', also films such as the brilliant 'Star Trek' reboot, is back here. Everything he does, seems to get everyone talking. He is one of Hollywood's most wanted. Super 8, when first announced was filmed completely in secret and not many, except from the people working on the film knew anything about it, and I kinda like that. Instead of a film being ruined and rammed in to your face before you have even seen it, becomes a little annoying.
Essentially, this seem like the passing of the torch from exec Producer, Mr. Spielberg to the young hotshot J.J., who pays homage to the classic film making of Steven, a lot of kids on bikes in this film, a la E.T.
Super 8 is set in 1979, Young Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) and a group of friends set out to make a homemade zombie movie, but whilst on a midnight shoot at the railways station, they witness a massive train crash, then on afterwards they notice everything seems to be not right, and discover extra Terrestrial activity is happening around the town.
First of the all, the young kids who are the leads of this film, are very good, and take on the mammoth task of carrying this epic Sci-fi, with brilliance. I felt that this had a lot of quality's that 'Cloverfield' had, like how we see very little of the aliens, and how the scenes with them in was shot in the very similar style, well except with out video cameras.
Here we have a massive mix of action, comedy, emotion, which all complimented each other. The writing is very good, and keeps you very interested in the film, to find out what happens.
I can't really say anything bad or critical of this film as it was a pleasure to watch. I would urge anyone of wanting to see a 'summer blockbuster', to see this. Thrilling stuff. Thank you Steven and J.J.
